Tour to Iran. Part 2: Isfahan and Yazd

Isfahan

The ancient city of Isfahan was once the capital of the Persian state, so there are many historical sights and appropriate architecture. There are no glass skyscrapers here.

Everyone starts acquaintance with the city from its central square, which is called the second largest square in the world after Beijing. Naqsh-i-Jahan really amazing in scale! But what is more surprising is that the square was designed at the very beginning of the construction of the city in the 16th century.

On the same square there is also a six-story palace of the ruler who built it - Ali Kapu. It is also one of the best attractions in the city. Against - Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, characterized by an abundance of patterned majolica. The second interesting detail of the mosque is that it has no minarets.

After carefully studying all the objects in the square and photographing it from different points, tourists go to lunch at local establishments. And then continue the promenade through the city:

Jami Mosque It is within walking distance of Naqsh-e-Jahan Square. It is one of the oldest in the country - it has been built since 771 AD! - and was built in an interesting architectural style of four gates-aivans.

isfahan market is the next location visited by tourists. After visiting it, many run into the hotel for a minute to leave their purchases in the room.

Chehel sotun palace and the Persian Gardens, another UNESCO-listed site that will appeal to lovers of beautiful architecture combined with gardens and ponds. The halls in the palace are decorated with skillful old frescoes, among which there are not only historical, but also love-erotic ones.

Bridges on the Zayenderud River, Si o Se Paul and Khaju, should be left for the evening. The ideal moment is to come when it is already getting dark and watch how the lights gradually turn on, and in the niches of the bridges the locals gather to rest.

Yazd

The city where Star Wars could be filmed (or was it filmed?) - Yazd. The adobe architecture and views of the city from all the rooftops are reminiscent of the good old Tatooine. It seems that there is not much to see in Yazd, but in fact, the city is absolutely not worth missing on the way to Shiraz:

Dakhma or towers of silence. The cones of the towers rise on the mountains in the vicinity of Yazd. These are the burial places of Zoroastrians, so few people go inside the towers. They are great for beautiful panoramic photos.

Atashkadeh - Zoroastrian temple of fire, a national monument of Iran. Relatively young compared to the ancient mosques of Isfahan, but very interesting and colorful.

complex Amir-Chagmag - a large-scale project that includes a square, caravanserais, a bazaar, a mosque, ponds, an irrigation system and Sufi monasteries. The complex was built from the 16th century and expanded.

garden Douletabat - a complex that includes an old building with a badgir and gardens.

water museum - talks about irrigation systems and underground channels.

There are many narrow streets in the city where it is easy to get lost, but kind locals are always ready to show the tourist the right direction - most of the streets will sooner or later lead you to Amir-Chagmag Square.
