We’ll be met by a transfer from the airport to the hotel. We’ll settle in comfortably and rest after the journey.
After breakfast, we’ll take a transfer to Ogle Airstrip. Ahead lies one of the world’s most inaccessible waterfalls — Kaieteur.
After registration and a short safety briefing, we’ll fly to the waterfall.
Friendly guides will lead us on a walking tour, showing the falls from different viewpoints. The guide will tell us about its history and local culture, and if we’re lucky, we’ll spot the Cock-of-the-Rock bird or the Golden Frog in their natural habitat.
We’ll return to Georgetown by plane.
We’ll take a city tour and return to the hotel for the night.
After breakfast, we’ll set off on an unforgettable journey to the Mahaica River, located less than an hour’s drive from Georgetown.
We’ll board a boat and escape the noise and bustle of the city. It’s a magical world full of diverse birds and animals. Along the riverbanks, we may spot tropical hoatzins, giant river otters, or lively howler monkeys. The fresh air and green scenery will bring relaxation and renewal.
After the trip, we’ll return to vibrant Georgetown and spend the night at the hotel.
In the morning, after breakfast, we’ll travel to Suriname.
Upon arrival, we’ll check into a hotel in Paramaribo.
After breakfast, we’ll enjoy a guided tour of Suriname’s capital. We’ll see the unique Dutch colonial architecture, unlike anything else in the world.
After lunch, we’ll explore the Commewijne plantations and discover the area’s rich history. We’ll step back in time, visiting old sugar, cocoa, and coffee plantations, and admire the impressive fortifications of Fort New Amsterdam. The highlight of the tour will be the restored Frederiksdorp plantation, where former workers’ houses have been transformed into cozy accommodations, and the old prison now serves as a charming restaurant.
Next, we’ll experience a sunset dolphin tour on the Suriname and Commewijne rivers. During the cruise, we’ll relax and enjoy a close encounter with playful dolphins. At the old Johan en Margaretha plantation, we’ll soak in the local atmosphere.
We’ll end the day with delicious snacks, drinks, and ambient music as the sky fills with warm evening colors.
After breakfast, we’ll transfer to Zorg en Hoop Airport in Paramaribo. During the flight over the Suriname River Basin, if the sky is clear, we’ll see bauxite mining areas (a rock rich in aluminum). We’ll pass over Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport, also known as “Zanderij.” Then we’ll see the vast Brokopondo Reservoir (about 1600 km²) and Brownsberg Nature Park. The “gaps” in the tropical forest are the result of gold mining.
South of the reservoir, along the upper Suriname River, are several Saramaccan villages — descendants of African slaves who escaped plantations in the 17th–18th centuries and founded independent settlements in the jungle.
Toward the end of the flight, the Suriname River disappears from view, but we’ll see several mountain peaks — the most prominent being Roosevelt Peak. Just before landing, we’ll spot Kasikasima Mountain to the south.
Upon arrival in Palumeu, we’ll settle into the lodge, have lunch, and rest. Overnight at the lodge.
We’ll spend the next two days in Palumeu. The village of about 300 inhabitants is home to two tribes — Trio and Wayana — who live peacefully despite language differences. The village is led by a captain and several assistants. The jungle is a true source of life: locals hunt, fish, and farm. Many building materials still come from the forest, though modern goods like kitchenware, clothing, tools, music, motorboats, and fuel are now bought in Paramaribo.
The village lies at the confluence of the Palumeu and Tapanahony rivers, about 170 m above sea level. During the rainy season, water levels can rise by up to 6 meters. The program may vary depending on conditions.
We’ll take a boat trip to the beautiful Palawa Island for a picnic. After exploring the Amazon jungle, we’ll hike up Pot Hill. The guide will tell us about local plants, animals, and possible wildlife encounters. After a peaceful river cruise, we’ll return to Palumeu and rest.
Weather permitting, we may enjoy a nighttime river cruise, or book individual walks, birdwatching, fishing, or other activities not included in the standard program.
Overnight at Palumeu Jungle Lodge.
After breakfast, we’ll return to Paramaribo.
Relaxation and overnight stay at the hotel.
After a hearty breakfast, we’ll head to the beautiful Stone Island. We’ll admire breathtaking views of vast waters dotted with treetops rising majestically above the waves. This peninsula is a paradise for canoeing, swimming, fishing, or simply relaxing. We’ll explore an old Jewish settlement with ruins of the oldest synagogue, a cemetery, and a healing spring.
We’ll end the day in this oasis of natural beauty and tranquility before returning to Paramaribo.
Overnight at the hotel.
Our adventure comes to an end! After breakfast, we’ll transfer to the French Guiana border and then head home.
See you on the next journey!
