A true exploratory journey to Angola: tribes and the stunning natural wonders of Southern Africa
We arrive in Luanda — the capital of Angola — and begin our journey through this vibrant and complex city. We take a walk along the oceanfront, feel the Atlantic breeze, and observe the fusion of colonial history and modern African life. We rest after the flight and prepare for the adventure ahead.
In the morning, we visit the surreal Moon Valley (Miradouro da Lua), where dramatic rock formations resemble lunar landscapes. Afterwards, we explore one of two museums: the Museum of Anthropology, or the Museum of Slavery, offering insights into Angola’s historical past.
At 17:00, we take a domestic flight to Lubango. Check-in and overnight at a hotel.
Before we continue towards the tribal regions, we will visit two of the most remarkable landmarks of this area. Our first stop is the breathtaking Tunda Vala Gap, offering one of the most impressive panoramas in Angola. We will then travel to Chibia and from there proceed to the Mumuila people. We will spend time with the community, observing their daily life, learning about their culture, traditions, and way of living. Later, we head south to meet the Humbi tribe, where we will spend the night.
In the morning, we will visit the Dimba community and their village. Afterward, we continue our journey toward Oncocua. Along the way, we will meet several groups — starting with the Himba people. Our overnight stay will take place in the Vatua village, giving us the opportunity to connect more deeply with the local community.
After breakfast, we depart to visit the Muacahona tribe and then return to Lubango. This adjusted schedule allows us to optimize the route. This way, Day 6 can be fully dedicated to landscapes and major highlights of the region. There is no need to spend additional days in Oncocua, giving us more time for the rest of the program.
We explore Lubango and its surroundings: the iconic Serra da Leba viewpoint, followed by visits to the Mucubal and Nguendelengue tribes in Namibe Province. Later that day, we return to Lubango and board our flight back to Luanda.
Morning flight from Lubango to Luanda. Upon arrival, we immediately begin the drive to Kalandula Falls — one of the largest and most spectacular waterfalls in Africa. The shift in landscape is dramatic: from arid lands to lush green and cascading water.
Overnight in the Kalandula area.
In the morning we explore the Kalandula Falls — view points, rainbows, and the overwhelming sound of water crashing into the rocks. After lunch, we begin the journey back to Luanda.
Transfer to the airport and international flight home — with a heart full of experiences, and stories of one of Africa’s most authentic journeys.
