We arrive in Luanda — the capital of Angola — and begin our journey through this vibrant and complex city. We take a walk along the oceanfront, feel the Atlantic breeze, and observe the fusion of colonial history and modern African life. We rest after the flight and prepare for the adventure ahead.
In the morning, we visit the surreal Moon Valley (Miradouro da Lua), where dramatic rock formations resemble lunar landscapes. Afterwards, we explore one of two museums: the Museum of Anthropology, or the Museum of Slavery, offering insights into Angola’s historical past.
At 17:00, we take a domestic flight to Lubango. Check-in and overnight at a hotel.
We set off from Lubango towards the region of Xangongo. Here we meet the Humbi and Nkumbi peoples and gain a glimpse into their daily life, traditions, and cultural heritage.
We spend the night at Pensão da Escola, a simple but authentic local guesthouse.
Today we head deep into the remote region of Oncocua, home to the Muhimba people — known for their traditional hairstyles, body adornments, and unique customs. This is one of the most immersive cultural experiences of the trip.
We camp overnight in tents under the African stars.
We stay in the Oncocua area to further explore the cultures of the Muhimba and Mucubai tribes. These neighboring groups live very differently — one nomadic, the other semi-sedentary and agricultural.
Another night in tents, immersed in Angola’s wild and silent landscapes.
We pack up and return to Lubango. Along the way, we may encounter the Dimba people. Night at the hotel.
Morning flight from Lubango to Luanda. Upon arrival, we immediately begin the drive to Kalandula Falls — one of the largest and most spectacular waterfalls in Africa. The shift in landscape is dramatic: from arid lands to lush green and cascading water.
Overnight in the Kalandula area.
In the morning we explore the Kalandula Falls — view points, rainbows, and the overwhelming sound of water crashing into the rocks. After lunch, we begin the journey back to Luanda.
Transfer to the airport and international flight home — with a heart full of experiences, and stories of one of Africa’s most authentic journeys.
