How South Korea beat the coronavirus without locking everything down

South Korea is a vivid example of the organization of the authorities and people, which helped them survive the coronavirus outbreak and return to normal life. However, for some reason this example is forgotten, considering only the Chinese model of fighting the disease.

According to statistics, South Korea is now in 8th place in terms of the number of infected people. Coronavirus rages in Europe while Koreans actively recover. Educational institutions are still in quarantine, but most companies are already letting employees go to work in their offices. Cafes, restaurants, bars, shopping malls, cinemas and subways did not close at all. To May holidays a massive return of tourists to the country is expected.

South Korea is home to 50 million people. Of these, 8565 have been infected to date, 92 have died, 1947 have recovered.

How did the Koreans manage to get by with "little bloodshed", without leaving millions of people employed in the service sector without a livelihood?

  1. Large-scale testing of the population. It began with a Christian sect whose parishioners believe that their leader is the coming of Christ. They were not particularly worried about some kind of virus, so they did not comply with quarantine measures.
The result - more than 300 thousand people have been checked. You can get checked even without getting out of the car - the government has installed mobile laboratories. People with symptoms and those who have been in contact with them are tested free of charge. When checking at will, the analysis costs $ 250, but if the result is positive, the payment is returned.
  2. Local self-quarantine. Have you been in contact with an infected person? Sit at home for 2 weeks or pay a fine. From 2800 to 9000 dollars. And so that you don’t get bored at home, pornhub was unblocked especially for the epidemic 🙂
  3. Hand sanitizers have been installed in all public places, building elevators, cafes, subways, and land transport. Entrance to public places is allowed only with a mask. Many radars have been installed to monitor visitors' body temperature. An online map has been created with places visited by those infected with coronavirus.
  4. Organized sale of masks at reasonable prices. The Naver online search engine tells you which pharmacy you can buy them in. They sell 2 masks per person per week. You can buy masks on a certain day of the week, depending on the last digit of the year of birth. The buyer shows his ID card and if he came on his day, they sell him masks.
  5. In Korea, there are no hot kisses and hugs at meetings. Bow and done. No physical contact 🙂

Today it is +20 in Seoul, sakura is already blooming in some places, people are walking on the streets without masks. Precautions are still being followed, but the real spring has come - the time for outdoor walks, admiring beautiful flowers and delicious coffee from the nearest coffee shop.
